Faith Ringgold: "I stayed out 'til I get in."

In the @hbo documentary, Black Art: In the Absence of Light, Ms Ringgold stated when Black women artists were rarely exhibited, that “I did what I wanted to do and paid the price. I just stayed out ‘til I get in.”

She supported the feminist art movement since the 70’s when the mainstream feminist movement really didn’t accept women who looked like her. She was a trailblazer and unashamed to tell her story. Early on when denied the opportunity to author her story, she composed them on fabric.

She is an activist, a storyteller, a style icon, a woman of power, strength and integrity. She has become one of my heroes.
